Need to get warm?

Fall colors were great this year…but it seems we are sliding into colder temps which can only mean one thing in Sumpter……..

Steaming Hot Chocolate and Sprinkles

In Sumpter, we aren’t afraid of the cold……we just know what to do to warm up!  :)

It’s Fall in Sumpter….!

We would like to remind everyone that it’s fall again in Sumpter! Of course, everywhere you look in Sumpter you can see bright vibrant fall colors popping out – and the drive up the mountain is breathtaking.….but we wanted to show you that perhaps the best place to enjoy these radiant fall colors is at the

Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area

and by the way…..

this beautiful state park just happens to be right outside our back door……

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

But if this sounds like a good idea….you’d better hurry….the state park closes for the season on Oct 30th and won’t open again until May 1st.

So…do you think a cozy fall weekend in Sumpter might be in order?

We’ll be waiting by the phone just in case you decide this might be a good idea!  :)

Oh, and did you know about our cabin special….?

stay three or more nights and get the fourth night FREE!

give us a call for details!

Can’t believe I just learned recently July is National Ice Cream Month! It actually started back in 1984 when President Ronald Reagan recognized the impact eating ice cream has on 90% of the nation’s population. Now, how in the world do you think I missed that reason for celebration? One will surely never know!

With it being summertime, what better treat to cool the summer heat than ice cream! More than likely you can reflect back on your childhood days and remember the scream for ice cream! I know I surely can. Even with our own kids the sound of the ice cream truck coming down the street brought on giggles, laughter and scampering to see who could get there first!

So, what are you waiting for – an engraved invitation?…

Just my opinion, but I think a fair measure of how we honor our fallen heroes is by how we treat those heroes who still are with us. Today I share two poems I wrote about our vets.

Old send young to fight.
Mothers bury their children.
The rest go shopping.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Coming home from war,
vets find more
stress awaits.
The suicide rates
are high.
Why?
Homelessness (please find a job)
Unemployment (please get some help)
Mental Illness (please apply for assistance).
Long waits for benefits,
courtesy of the government.

But hey, here’s a free coffee.
Thanks for defending democracy!

Memorial Day 2013

While we enjoy this holiday weekend in Sumpter….please join us as we take pause to honor those who have given their lives and to those who currently serve our country so we can be free to enjoy this weekend!

God bless America and all those who serve……..

It’s spring – bet you already knew that :)

Not only is it great to be able to see our grass again…..but lots of good things are happening in Sumpter (more details later.) The next time you stop by, be sure to take a look at a few of our favorite photos from this winter on our photo wall! By the way, if you have a favorite photo of winter in Sumpter…you’re welcome to share it with us!

We had a blast in the snow this year…but it’s all gone now.   :( Time to put the snowmobiles and snowshoes away for a few months and turn our thoughts to life without snow.  Here in Sumpter….life without the white stuff means lots of new adventures!

You  may think it’s too early to start talking about summer…..until you take a look at the calendar!

Of course the first thing we would like to talk about is our hours!  Beginning in May, as with every year, we will once again be open for Dinner!  More details coming soon!

Next, the Sumpter Valley Dredge State Heritage Area will be opening May 1st.  The dredge will be once again open to tours and the interpretive store will also be open. Friends of The Dredge will be holding it’s Annual Meeting April 13th and everyone is invited!  See details here.

The whistle will be blowing in Sumpter again when the historic steam train begins running in May as the Sumpter Valley Railroad opens it’s season May 24th during the Memorial Day Flea Market. See the 2013 train schedule here.

Speaking of Flea Markets, the first of three Flea Markets in Sumpter will be the Memorial Day Flea Market – May 24th – May 27th.  Learn more about Sumpter Flea Markets here.

So if old man winter locked has had you locked inside these past few months…..just break the door down and take a spring trip to Sumpter!

See a complete list of Sumpter Events here.
